This folder contains a repaint for the Spitfire Mk.XIX by Robert Richardson. It shows Spitfire S.31 31042 of No.5 squadron of F11 Wing of the Swedish Air Force, around 1954, so with the new wing insignia and the longer walkways. The Swedish Air Force only used the PR.XIX reconnaissance version of the Spitfire, buying 50 from the RAF after the war, and used them for reconnaissance missions over the Baltic. Several S31 photographic missions in the late 1940s entailed flagrant violations of Soviet – and, at least once, Finnish – airspace in order to document activities at the air and naval installations in the Baltic and Kola regions. At that time, no Soviet fighter was able to reach the operational altitude of the S 31. No Swedish planes were lost during those clandestine operations. However, by the early 1950s, Soviet air defenses had become so effective that such practices had to cease. Repaint by JanKees, based on the textures by Rob Richardson.
