P-38L-1-LO 'Texas Jewell II' of the 485th FS / 370th FG as it appeared in Belgium, fall 1944. Note the spelling of 'Jewell.'
This repaint is based on a single black-and-white photo found on p.58 of the book "American Eagles: P-38 Lightning units of the eight and ninth air forces" by Roger Freeman (2001). Color photographs and marking plates found in the same book, among others, of planes from the same unit were also used as references.
I've taken several liberties with the markings: I'm assuming the color of the Texas Star and lettering is red and sky blue, matching the units' colors. I did this because the shades of the lettering in the b&w photo appear similar to those of the spinner which is known to be red and blue from other planes in the unit. I've also named the right engine 'Marie' to go along with the left engine's name 'Ann' as shown in the photo.
Includes a few additions & adjustments to the panel textures and a few decals.
