rsATCPlayer is a Windows program that will play .asx files that you have downloaded from liveatc.net.
Note: Theses are live streams, not old recordings.
It is standalone, and can be used with MSFS or XPlane, as it has no connection to or dependency on any simulator.
It supports loading two files at once so you can have an active playing file and a standby file. This allows seamless switching streams, even with the delay involved in spooling up an audio stream asx file.
This program is not affiliated with liveatc.net.
Works nice with FSLTL traffic injector.
You hear live ATC give landing clearance to a Q400, and you look up and see one on short final... how cool is that! Sadly, on the ground live ATC does not match the aircraft movements very well.
Installation
Unzip and run the installer rsATCPlayerSetup.msi
rsATCPlayer is a standalone Windows executable and should not be installed into MSFS community folder.
Installation Note:
rsATCPlayer needs to write to an xml file in its installation folder, and copy asx files there.
If you install rsATCPlayer in the default location C:\Program Files\rsATCPlayer, Windows will prevent you from saving LiveATC files.
Here are a couple of work arounds, choose one that suits you:
- Set rsATCPlayer to 'Run as Administrator' - Now rsATCPlayer can read/write into its own folder. This is done by right clicking on the icon > Properties > Compatibility then check - Run this program as an Administrator.
- When you install, select a different location in the installer, maybe C:\rsATCPlayer - no problems to read/write here.
This might be really useful with PSXT. I normally download and play the LiveATC files in VLC Video Player, but it's a bit tedious using that. PSXT loads live traffic on roughly a 30-second delay, so the author might consider adding an option to adjust when the audio starts. VLC has this feature so it's possible to get the audio to closely match the actual traffic loaded by PSXT.

Do you mean it won't start, or won't play, or won't load asx files?

how it works ? Only load the file and then you listen the frequency selected during all the flight or only in approuch ?

It is essentially just immersive background chatter.
What I do is select ATIS to get the IRL runway. (not all liveATC.net airports have ATIS)
Then switch to ground while I am prepping the aircraft for my flight. You can hear what taxi instructions the IRL aircraft are getting. I leave it on ground until I near the takeoff hold point, then switch to tower. After takeoff over to departure, etc.
I find it feels like you are really there, especially when combined with FSLTL.
Once you have added an asx file to rsATCPlayer, it is always the live ATC whenever you play it.

What a very cool idea. I just tested this at KLAX and it works very well.

Thanks :-)
I sometimes find it distracting because I am enjoying just listening to ATC and miss doing stuff in the cockpit.
I was at CYYZ the other day (in MSFS) and there was a dog running around on the apron. Great fun listening to them dealing with that.
