The Lake Logan airport, open from 1978 to 1980 was used by the Champion Paper company as a executive retreat for a short time until is subsequent closeure due to its unsafe and risky location. The strip was used to ferry the upper echelon of corporate western North Carolina to their many retreats in the mountains around the area.
The earliest depiction of this airfield which has been located was on the 1979 USGS topo map. It depicted a single 3,600' runway, which actually was somewhat curved as it followed the narrow slice of land in between Route 215 & the west bank of the Pigeon River. The airfield was not labeled at all.\
William Stephens recalled, "Champion International paper company (since absorbed by International Paper)had a sort of fishing retreat called Lake Logan. At some point they built a very narrow paved strip with a sort of cul-de-sac at one end for turning around. It was completely surrounded by huge pine trees, and my father said the company pilot threatened to quit if he had to keep flying in there, so that one went by the wayside."
Today the strip is compleatly run down with overgrowth on the runway surface and no access to the area.
My goal for this project was to reimagine the strip as if it was still in use today. With updated Runway features, Percision lighting, a small heli pad, and the foliage around the area tweaked to fit todays modern look. In addition to the airport its self, Ive made additions to the area about 1nm surrounding the strip. Adding ligting aswell as renovating the small Dock and landing area for boats at the lakes edge.
This is my second attempt at an airport so ALL feedback is welcome!

Fun challenge strip and gorgeous location. Nicely done. You may want to make it clearer in your description that while the original on images was 3600 feet, this strip is more like 1/3 of that.

Nice airstrip. I was expecting 3600ft runway. It was a little bit difficult to land with my PA28. But I had lot´s of fun. Thank´s for the nice scenery. Great pice of work. Really enjoyed it.

Currently IRL there is a large property at the South end of the runway and i was unable to cross over into that area. I want to keep things as current as possible!
