Grozny International Airport (Severny)- federal international airport in the northern part of Grozny,
For the first time the Grozny Air Enterprise "Grozny Airport" began its work in 1938, when the first postal transportation and sanitary flights began to be carried out on the R-5 and U-2 aircraft. After some time, flights for the needs of agriculture began to be carried out. Until 1977, Grozny had an airport with only a dirt runway, which could only accept Li-2, Il-14, An-24 and An-10 aircraft.
In 1977, a new airport complex was put into operation with an artificial runway and the basing of Tu-134 passenger airliners that connected the Chechen-Ingush ASSR with the regions of the USSR.
During the time of troubles of 1991-1994 and during the wars of 1994-2000 , the airport changed its name several times:1991 - Sheikh Mansour Airport;
1995 - Severny Airport;
1996 - Sheikh Mansour Airport;
2000 - Severny Airport.
In accordance with the register of toponyms, it is referred to as Grozny (Severny) Airport[1].
The entire infrastructure and airfield were significantly damaged during the fighting against the Chechen armed formations, which seized the airport on September 8, 1991 and held it until September 30, 1994.
